This Wednesday the Federalism Committee intends to hear HB178 and vote on it. HB178 will allow people to carry hidden loaded weapons in public without a background check, permit, training or oversight.

This last week the Speaker of the House, Rep Larry Householder, asked the committee not to vote because “Our office received hundreds of these form emails from Ohio Gun Owners, that indicated that they — like I — did not want this language, circled in red below, added to the bill. Today, the Federalism committee amended that language into the bill. I asked that the committee not vote the bill out of the committee for a week in order to clean the bill up.”

He had heard from gun owners that they claimed that the pamphlet provided by gun dealers on gun laws when purchasing a firearm  was a threat to them and ‘could get them killed’  because it said they had a duty to retreat before using lethal force.  Rep Larry Householder  agreed and didn’t want them to have to read the law !!!!!!

This is what the Ohio Revised code  says about the pamphlet:

The Ohio peace officer training commission, in consultation with the attorney general, shall prepare a pamphlet that does all of the following, in everyday language:

(a) Explains the firearms laws of this state;

(b) Instructs the reader in dispute resolution and explains the laws of this state related to that matter;

(c) Provides information to the reader regarding all aspects of the use of deadly force with a firearm, including, but not limited to, the steps that should be taken before contemplating the use of, or using, deadly force with a firearm, possible alternatives to using deadly force with a firearm, and the law governing the use of deadly force with a firearm.

Here is the letter he received from Ohio Gun Owners.

The threat is to our culture if the privilege of buying and carrying weapons does not insist on  knowing the firearm laws in Ohio!
