Ohio’s New Gun Law, What You Can Do

Ohio’s Guns Everywhere bill (SB199) officially goes into effect at midnight on March 21, 2017. This bill was passed in the middle of the night as the final act of the Lame Duck session of the Ohio Legislature and then signed into law by Governor Kasich.

We are working hard — in partnership with supporters and allies across the state and country — with the goal of limiting the impacts this corporate gun lobby supported legislation. Here’s what you can do:

Make sure you ASK if there is a gun where your child plays, or in vehicles your child rides in. Under the new law, guns will now be allowed in school and workplace parking lots.

Request a free weapons free zone sign for a daycare in your community. Daycares will now need to post signs to prohibit the carrying of hidden, loaded weapons on their premises.

Sign our petition for gun free colleges and universities. We are working with allies to ensure that all of Ohio’s institutes of higher education remain gun-free, and your input can make a difference.

Make a contribution to support our work to educate and advocate for gun violence prevention across Ohio. Your donation will help us continue to amplify the voices of Ohioans who want common sense gun laws.

We are closely monitoring events on the federal, state, and local level and will continue to let you know when your voice can make the most impact.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Thorne, Executive Director
Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence
