June 16, 2017: Permitless Carry Being Considered by Ohio House Committee

Completely outrageous!” That’s what I said when I got notice this afternoon about a bill for Permitless Carry being heard on Tuesday in the Ohio House Federalism and Interstate Relations commitee – along with FOUR other corporate gun lobby bills.

This week marks one year since the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando and two years since the mass shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston. And after the mass shooting in Alexandria where 5 individuals – including a US Rep. Scalise and US Capitol Police Officer – were shot by a gunman armed with an assault weapon, this hearing is a slap in the face.

More guns in the hands of untrained civilians in our public spaces is NOT the answer to these tragedies. But in addition to Permitless Carry, the committee is hearing proposals for Stand Your Ground/Shoot First, Surprise Guns, Armed Emergency Medical Responders, and the Get Out of Jail Free bill that would allow for concealed carry permit holders to LEGALLY violate our weapons free zones.

It’s imperative that the chair of this committee, Rep. Kristina Roegner, hears from people across Ohio that loose gun laws are not what we want. Click here to take action today.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Thorne, Executive Director
Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence
