HB 347 Override, Ohio Shame
Legislators Take Away Rights
'Elected' Choose the Gun Lobby Again
State legislators have shown their true colors by passing a bill and then today overriding the Governor's veto in order to take rights away from the people of Ohio.
The claim that good government is best closest to home and putting their trust in Ohio's Home Rule for years, the Ohio Senate voted to take the rights of the people to govern themselves away today.
To please the gun lobby, our legislators preempted all local ordinances that regulate firearms.
Pretending that HB 347 was about Concealed Carry laws needing to be uniform, they passed and voted to override a veto on a bill that will make over 80 local ordinances invalid. These laws range from having gun dealers register in the city, to permits to purchase and assault weapon bans, to child safety. All of which city governments and their citizens thought were beneficial to the safety of their communities.
Toby Hoover, Executive Director of the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence said: "The passage of HB 347 and the override of Governor Taft's veto is an appalling arrogance against the will of and the respect for the people of Ohio to govern themselves. These representatives and senators will be remembered for the rights they took away from Ohioans in favor of the gun lobby."
